My newest time suck (besides painting the damn house) has got to be Scrabble on Facebook. Or more specifically, the iTouch app the let’s me kick elle’s butt without having to deal with a laptop. She wasn’t sure about it at first (she mistrusts Facebook apps like they’re all Skynet). But once I talked her into it, it was on like Donkey Kong. Yes, yes… digital media is taking over life, blah, blah.
Look… I don’t have to set up a board, shuffle tiles or count. What’s not to like? And it’s a little difficult to balance a Scrabble board on your lap while laying in bed. Lately, that’s how we’ve been playing. She’ll be on her laptop and I’ll be on the Touch, side-by-side in bed. One person plays, and tells the other, “Go!” Then you wait for them to see the destruction you’ve just unleashed upon their score. Mwahahahahaha!
My favorite thing about the app is the Teacher function. After you play a word, and pass a turn over to your opponent, you can hit the teacher button. It will show you what you could have just played (if you had the vocabulary of Jedi), in an effort to expand your skills. Did you know “feazed” was a word? Me either, until the Teacher showed me during our last game. Luckily, I still had all the tiles to make that word on my next turn. So I just had to play it. For 68 points. And even though elle was never in the Navy… she sure can curse like a sailor.
