It’s down to the wire… the final 2 weeks! Although at this point, I don’t know how anyone catches up to Brent.
I finally broke down and started running. And (loathe as I am to admit it) actually kind of miss it the mornings I don’t do it. Although my knees do not.
And Bart’s out now with a herniated disc in his back, but we’ll continue to mock him. And he’ll still be required to post an “after” pic. (MWAHAHAHAHA!)

Ed Roth’s “Mega Cycle”… a Matchbox car come to life! This thing is so sweet that when I found the sketch for it online, I had to do some more investigating about it.
I found this write-up for it on the Kustomrama site:
“The Mega Cycle is a show car built by Ed Roth. With the Mega Cycle, Ed wanted to take a crack at predicting what El Caminos of the 21st century would look like. The first sketches for the car was drawn by Ed Newton in 1966. The car was originally intended for hauling Ed’s Harley XLCH until he purchased a show winning Triumph.
The original name for the creation was Captain Pepi’s Motorcycle & Zeppelin Repair. Robert Williams gave the car its first name. After a strong suggestion from car show promoters the name of the car was changed to the Mega Cycle. The car was powered by a Buick V6 engine.
After touring the show circuit for one year, Ed traded the car for a V-Dub rear clip. A local junk dealer got to use the car in front of his junkyard for publicity for one year. After one year, when Ed came to pick it up, the car had been turned into a house for the junkyard dogs. The dogs had ripped the seats. Ed went on and sold the car to Jim Brucker in 1969. Jim traded it to Harrah’s. When Bill Harrah died the Mega Cycle and several other cars in Bill’s collection was auctioned off. Ed’s sonDarryl Roth ended up buying the Mega Cycle and the Druid Princess at the auction. Ed and Darryl restored the Mega Cycle and the Druid Princess with assist from Pete Santini. After the cars had been restored, they were both sold to Jay Ohberg, and once again sent on the show circuit.
Today the Mega Cycle and Triumph is currently being restored again by Fritz Schenck. It was difficult finding info about the Mega Cycle in books and magazines. But after a lot of research he was able to find a good color photo of the left side of the bike on the back of a truck at a California auto show from around 1967-1968. The chopper has been the hardest part of the vehicle to restore, missing many hard to find specialty parts.
After 7 months of hard work Fritz completed the restoration in September of, 2009, 5 days before the bike is getting auctioned away at the Icons of Speed & Styleauction in Los Angeles, California. Mark Moriarity was the lucky bidder at the auction that bought the mega Cycle for $ 60,500 USD. According to Mark, it’s the 4th time he has owned the Mega Cycle.”
If I ever win the lotto big-time, it might just have to be mine.

Last weekend me, Coop and Ty had a Saturday meeting of the He-Man Woman Haters Club. elle was gone to a wedding in Raleigh with her her mom, so it was a testosterone-filled day in Winston-Salem.

First things first... java is a must!

Hey guys... wanna go grab lunch someplace where they have TVs with football games on them? No? Oh.

Do ya' wanna go to Chucky Cheese? Yeah? Oh.

Two young lads having a splendid time amidst the chaos.

Don't worry, me and Uncle Bud are doing okay too.

Chopper Ty, the "Scourge of the Skies"!

And Captain Cooper, the "Terror of the Seven Seas"!

There were zombies wandering at the CVS as we waited for flu shots.

And a crazed murderer or two.

And whatever the hell this thing was!
The weather outside was rainy and cold, so we finished off the day with a Wii tournament and a little Cartoon Network. All in all… a good time was had by all. Thanks guys!!!

I went out some friends Thursday night and finally got to check out the new Single Brothers bar. Me and some old school LHCers/Mullenites met up there for some adult beverages. From what I can gather, the bar is the latest venture from some of the same guys behind Krankies Coffee. It is now officially my new favorite place to drink. Well, second favorite. The backyard by a fire is still number one. Okay, 3rd favorite. In the river at the caves probably edges it out.
But Single Brothers is a nice alternative, especially for Winston-Salem. The interior is pretty small, but they have plenty of outdoor seating. And even though it was humid as all get-out that night, we all had a blast. I got a little apprehensive when I saw some guy setting up a DJ table with turntables. But then the bar stereo cut off and he started spinning… old jazz. I could have stayed all freaking night!
First, I had a drink called the “Hellfire” – Serrano pepper infused vodka and grapefruit juice, on the rocks. Jesus Christ… even the ice seemed hot in that drink! Wow. It did mellow out about 1/2 way through, but that first half had me spittin’ hot fire. I followed it up with a “Brothers G&T” (in the hopes of cooling off the inside of my mouth). They mix it with Hendrick’s Gin, tonic and a couple cucumber slices. Very nice. And to finish the night off, I had to go with the $2 can of Schlitz. Perfect finish for a perfect night.
